colorful plants in winter in the bay area

Some of my year round colorful plants which are appreciated more in winter, are my Dracaena palm. I love my "pink passion" cordyline. I do also have a dark plum one. The only upkeep for this plant is cutting off the old leaves at the bottom. A palm feature :) Requires full sun.

My other favorite which seems to have flowers all year round is my flowering maple. What's not to like. It requires part shade, which I have alot of from my neighbors huge redwood tree. I added two more recently, a light yellow and a pink.

Camellias

Gosh I love plants that flower when everything is so gloomy. They really brighten my day. One such beauty here in the Bay area are camellias. What I look for in a camellia is how the flower drops, because I hate seeing a camellia tree with all these dead brown flowers hanging down. So far the camellias I have are: (all are red).

Kramers Supreme,
Tom Knudson
Yuletide (not planted by me)
Nuccio Bella Rossa (such a nice perfect shape)

I will post pictures of these one of these days. But I like Daves garden website to get info on the varieties.

My first post

Hello kind reader of my blog. (mostly me :)) I love gardening and love plants. Plants make me happy and give me a sense of peace. I have a rock in my garden which says it all:
"All my cares fly away in my garden".
I will be adding pictures I've taken last year and more this year of my new plants and existing favorites.
One of my roses.. Sexy Rexy is my first pick..

Supposedly all the garden experts say to group flowers in groups of three or five so I bought five of these beauties. Their color is such a nice shade of powder pink.
